Food As Medicine
Food as Medicine meets the nutritional needs of neighbors experiencing homelessness in Tulare County, based at The Neighborhood Village. This initiative emphasizes education, practical culinary skills, and access to fresh produce to promote healthier lifestyles and break the cycles of poverty and homelessness.
Designed to help our neighbors thrive, the program focuses on healthy eating and cooking habits for overall improved well-being. Our neighbors, often excluded from communal spaces like grocery stores, face challenges transitioning to making their own food choices. Our curriculum guides them through this transition, easing their way back into society and reconnecting them with themselves. By combining educational components with practical culinary training, we aim to improve health outcomes, foster self-sufficiency, and break the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals to make positive lifestyle changes.
At the heart of “Food as Medicine” is fostering a sense of community through group activities, cooking events, and peer support networks. Encouraging social interaction and creating a positive environment reinforces the importance of healthy living and mutual support.
