A Guiding Hand

Jay’s first day in his new home

At just 23 years old, Jay found himself alone, in and out of shelters with no family, and surviving on the streets of Tulare County.

At the end of 2022, in what we call a divine appointment, Salt + Light crossed paths with Jay at our Thanks + Giving event. He was quickly folded into the Salt + Light family, and relationship was tenderly cultivated.

From doctor’s and bank appointments to school, the dentist, and other critical appointments, in just six short months, Jay is now safely housed.

Over the years, many people told Jay what papers to fill out and where he needed to go to find housing, but he couldn’t get to those places alone. What Jay truly needed was a guiding hand.

When Julie came into Jay’s life, she didn’t tell him to go to the DMV on Monday. Instead, she showed up on Monday and took him herself. This is how we walk with people: WITH THEM. Small, slow, steady steps into the next chapter of their lives, reminding them they’re not alone.
